TILLERY that features a collaboration between Rebecca Martin, Gretchen Parlato and Becca Stevens has organized an entire weekend of Songwriting Workshops in New York City at The Jazz Gallery on Saturday, May 26th and Sunday, May 27th 2012 from 10:00am – 4:00pm on both days.  With only 30 available slots, participants are encouraged to enroll early.

30 participants will have a chance to discuss different songwriting approaches, share songs and stories in an intimate setting with the three renowned and accomplished musicians.

After a successful week at the Stanford Jazz Workshop in California in 2011 (which was led by Martin, with support from Parlato and Stevens) Tillery was inspired to teach. “The three of us all share the same desire to connect with musicians in this intimate setting – with students who are dedicated to their craft,” says Rebecca Martin. “Sharing ourselves in this manner is a very natural part of what we all do.”

Becca Stevens agrees. “Writing, learning, and composing is only half of the joy of music for me. Sharing these gifts makes up the other half. I consider teaching to be the most direct and meaningful way that I can share music. Performing is blissful, but the impression that can be made though teaching, both for the teacher and the student, has the potential to be far deeper.”

“Songwriting is a gift,” says Gretchen Parlato. “It’s a gift to ourselves and to those who listen. In our workshop, we want to open up, explore and share the process with other songwriters, connecting and learning from each other on all levels technical, spiritual, and emotional.”

The cost for the weekend is $425.00 for early enrollment (to March 31st) and $500.00 after April 1st. The Songwriting Workshop with TILLERY will include a comprehensive itinerary from 10:00am – 4:00pm on both Saturday, May 26th and Sunday, May 27th, 2012. A catered lunch is included. Students will enjoy a group setting with one on one attention and interaction with the instructors. A special room rate at a local hotel is available to students needing accommodations. At The Jazz Gallery, 290 Hudson Street in New York City. To enroll, visit: THE JAZZ GALLERY.

Tillery: A Quiet Intensity by the Revivalist

The Revivalist: slideshow image 4

What better way to launch our vocalist issue than to feature an in depth interview with Tillery, an inspiring trio of vocalists who have their feet in the jazz world and have come together to make music that authentically expresses themselves. The ladies of Tillery, Rebecca Martin who has been playing music for over two decades in the jazz world as well performing as a singer-songwriter and guitarist, Gretchen Parlato one of the most respected jazz vocalists of our time, and Becca Stevens the youngest of the three who is already a prolific songwriter and guitarist are a powerful team. It is not everyday that you see three jazz vocalists coming together, which makes Tillery a quite refreshing and important group. Grounded in friendship and love, their music exudes compassion and warmth. The Revivalist spoke with Tillery while they were together at Rebecca Martin’s home in Upstate New York. These ladies shared their giggles, infectious energy, and wise words on what it means to be a jazz vocalist today….READ ON

Tillery in Jazz Times

TILLERY:  A Vocal Dream Team – Rebecca Martin, Gretchen Parlato and Becca Stevens bring diverse influences to this uniquely simpatico supergoup.  (by Andrew Gilbert for Jazz Times)

“What’s in a name? For the vocal supergroup launched at Manhattan’s Cornelia Street Café last January by Rebecca Martin, Gretchen Parlato and Becca Stevens, absolutely everything. While the triumvirate debuted under the gently self-mocking moniker Girls Gone Mild, the seed for a new name, Tillery, had already been planted. The project is still very much in a formative stage, with new original songs and arrangements being integrated into the act at just about every performance. No piece better embodies the trio’s spirit of love, respect and creative ambition than the song that gave the group its new identity…..” Read more by clicking this LINK
